After your child has been evaluated, the school will hold a second meeting in order to look at the evaluations and decide if your child has a disability. If he or she has a disability that impacts his or her performance in the classroom, then the child may receive special education.
The Planning and Placement Team MUST include a:
- parent,
- regular education teacher,
- special education teacher, and
- school administrator
How can I get ready for the PPT meeting?
This meeting is where the team will begin to plan your child’s Individualized Education Program, or IEP.
You should look at your child’s school records before you go to the second PPT meeting. Here are two ways you can ask the school for your child's records:
You have the right to get one free copy of your child’s records. If you ask for more copies, the school district can charge you.
You can get your child’s records until your child turns 18. After your child turns 18, your child can get his or her own records and you will need your child’s written permission to get them, unless your child is still your dependent for tax purposes.
