How to Stop Your Landlord from Illegally Shutting Off your Utilities
Steps you'll need to take
Step 10: After the Hearing
IF YOU LOST:
Your TRO ends and you lose. The judge can order you to pay for all the court fees and your landlord's attorney's fees if s/he has any. Even if you lost at this hearing, however, your landlord cannot legally evict you without a Writ of Posession order signed by a judge. Also, if your landlord turns off your utilities again, you can file a TRO again. Call Legal Aid for information on the eviction process.
IF YOU WON:
If you won, check with the District Court clerk to find out if you need to file any additional forms. You can also call Legal Aid for more information on what your options are after the hearing.
