This classroom will teach you about the things you can do if the home you are renting needs repairs. It is for people who are renting a home to live in, no matter what kind of home it is (e.g. a mobile home, camper, or "stick built" home). It is not for a building you are renting for a business or if you own a mobile home and rent the lot that it is on.
Your landlord needs to make sure that your home is in a "fit and habitable" condition. This means that there shouldn't be any problems with your home that threaten your health or safety or that of your family/rommates, or your guests. There also shouldn't be any other serious problems with the home.
Examples of of serious problems include: No heat or hot water, leaky plumbing, mold, pests/bugs, missing door locks, or electrical problems.
Basically, if a problem with your home affects health and safety or if it seriously interferes with your ability to enjoy the home, your landlord probably has to fix it.
IMPORTANT: You should NOT stop paying your rent because your landlord isn't making repairs. Lots of tenants believe they can do that, but it usually ends up making your case much more difficult to win. It also makes it more likely that you end up being evicted.
Watch this short video which will give you an overview of your options and check out the rest of this classroom for more information.
