A divorce case begins with the filing of a Complaint for Divorce. The Complaint for Divorce is a written request to the court for a divorce.
The person who asks for this legal action is called the Plaintiff and remains the Plaintiff throughout the case. Your spouse is called the Defendant.
A filing fee is required. Contact the Clerk of the District Court for the amount of the filing fee and what forms of payment are accepted. This may vary by county.
