I have filed for an Order of Protection, what happens now?
The Respondent (abuser) will be served with the paperwork. This means that a sheriff's deputy will hand the paperwork to the Respondent or another adult in the house that can accept the paperwork. The person will receive all of the documents you have filed and will have an opportunity to read through these before court. They will also have notice of the court hearing and can come to the hearing if they want to.
